The challenge.

  • Teaching was split across video calls, email attachments and manual grading.
  • The client wanted courses, lessons and assessments in one place learners could return to.
  • Progress and results had to be tracked per learner, not guessed at.
  • Content had to be easy to author and update, or the platform would go stale within a term.

Our approach.

  • Built the learner experience with PHP for lessons, media and assessments.
  • Backed it with PHP to store courses, submissions and results.
  • Modelled enrolment, progress and grading so each learner has a clear path.
  • Gave instructors authoring and review tooling.
  • Made authoring and updating content a non-technical task.

The outcome.

  • Learners take courses, submit work and see results in one place.
  • Instructors author and grade without juggling email and spreadsheets.
  • Progress is tracked per learner instead of estimated.
  • Content stays current because updating it is a non-technical task.
One of their strengths is quickly building out a multi-disciplinary team to work on the development and delivery of features with different technical requirements. Their support has allowed us to accelerate our development work without building an internal team. They have also worked seamlessly with other third parties both during the acquisition of Dragonfly and development of our mobile app.
